Lightning & Lightning Protection (SS555:2010 - Singapore's New Lightning Protection Code) 23-25 Nov 2011 @ Raffles Town Club

The Lightning & Lightning Protection (SS555:2010 - Singapore's New Lightning Protection Code) Workshop 2011 is a joint event brought to our valued customers by D'Mark Technologies (S) Pte Ltd and PHOENIX CONTACT (SEA) PTE LTD.

This course aims at providing the participants with a clear understanding of the effects of lightning and what can or cannot be done to alleviate its effects. The various methods available for lightning protection of building structures will be described and some experimental studies to determine their effectiveness will be presented. We had invited close to 60 guests to come forward to this learning event from 23rd November 2011 to 25th November 2011 at the Raffles Town Club. The registration kicked started early morning and we were pleased that our valued-customers have been supportive to be present and make the event overall a great success and memorable. Our speaker for the three day program was Professor Liew Ah Choy who received a First Class Honours degree and PhD from the University of Queensland, Australia in 1969 and 1972 respectively.

In April 1979, he joined the National University of Singapore where he is currently a Professor in Electrical & Computer Engineering. His main interests are in lightning and lightning protection. He has over 275 publications in international and regional journals and has acted as a specialist consultant to many lightning related and other technical projects in Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia. He is also the chairman of the technical committee of the Singapore Code of Practice for Lightning Protection, SS555:2010 as well as the previous edition CP33:1996.

The new Singapore Lightning Protection Code SS555:2010 was launched in November 2010. It consists of 4 parts:

Part 1: General principles
Part 2: Risk management
Part 3: Physical damage of structures and life hazard
Part 4: Electrical and electronic systems within structures

The Code has been adopted by the Singapore Building and Construction Authority (BCA) which mandates its compliance for building structures in Singapore. This course will highlight some of the new concepts and requirements, in particular, the more stringent aspects in comparison with the previous Code CP33:1996.

D'Mark Technologies (S) Pte Ltd earnestly thank all the customers for their time and hope they had a fruitful learning experience within these three day program with Professor Liew.
